Electro-Harmonix Soul Food Overdrive (JHS Pedals ‘Meat & 3’ Mod)

Yet another overdrive based on the famous Klon, the Soul Food from Electro-Harmonix was created to bring great-sounding tone to musicians everywhere…at an VERY affordable price. As with all great Klone-type pedals, the Soul Food provides sweet, creamy, transparent overdrive, but can also go pretty balls out if need be. Volume, Tone and Drive controls are also typical, but like so many other pedals have come to find out, one trip to Kansas City to visit JHS Pedals, and the true possibilities come shining through.

JHS takes a wonderful re-creation and adds to it, making it about the most versatile and easily-shapable klone around. They add in a 3-position toggle switch, which features the original stock clipping, an open clipping, and germanium clipping (like the original Klon has). These three positions allow you to find many different tones, enabling the user to play around and grasp their perfect sound. Another addition is the ‘Meat’ knob on the side, which controls the amount of bass that is present, giving more opportunity for more tone-shaping to the guitarist.

Next to the sound of this great pedal, the best thing about it has got to be the price: $62.00. What? That’s correct, just $62.00. And if you want JHS to throw their badass mods on it, it’s only another $45.00 (or $110 if you want them to just send you a brand new pedal). So, for around a hundred bucks, you can duplicate a sound that right now goes for well over $1500 on ebay. I had heard good things about this little wonder, and I’m soooo glad I snatched one up – you will be, too.
