So, you want to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robben Ford or Santana, eh? Well, Step 1 is practicing 16 hours a day for, like, 40 years. Step 2 is a little bit easier now, however, with the introduction of the DMBL Overdrive pedal from Mojo Hand FX.

The classic tones the aforementioned guitarists’ presented to the world were due in part to their amplifiers – extremely rare, highly sought-after and wickedly expensive machines made by Dumble Amplifiers in California. Less than 300 total have ever been made, and if you can find one, be prepared to shell out anywhere from $20,000 to $50,000 for it (seriously). The DMBL pedal works to specifically re-create those coveted (and pricy) tones, all for less than 200 bucks.

One of the things I like best about the DMBL is the Bass Control, which really makes a difference in your tone. Having 2 separate controls for the Tone is great, and here the Bass is really pronounced in every sonic aspect. Combined with the Treble in any number of different settings will yield an array of tones for you to play around with, until you find exactly what you’re looking for. The Gain knob gives a great amount of control as well, ranging from a beautiful clean boost to a nice sustaining, growling drive sound. On top of that, there’s a 2-way voicing toggle switch, which goes between a jazzy sound and a more rocking midrange-y sound. All of these options make for a plethora of sounds coming out of this one box, and can really make your amp sound like it cost $50,000 (well, almost, anyway).

If you dig the smooth blues of John Mayer or the killer classic tones from Little Feat‘s Lowell George, but can’t scrape up the cash to buy an amp that you need to sell both kidneys to afford, check out the awesome DMBL stompbox. Mojo Hand FX pedals are true bypass, hand-built in the USA using rugged die-cast enclosures, and use only the highest quality components to ensure a long and fulfilling life on your pedalboard. Go check ’em out!
