Right out of the gate, the Bumblebee from Hungry Robot Pedals had me intrigued. This pedal is being hyped as an EQ-Boost-Overdrive-Distortion-Fuzz, which seems like a pretty tall order to me. But with a few twists of the knobs, I could tell that this thing was a beast, and could deliver on all it promises, and perhaps a little bit more. A truly unique and dirty pedal, the Bumblebee can perform many functions, from a delicious clean boost, all the way up to a sick, grungy distorted tone. Let’s check it out!

The Master knob controls the overall Volume of the pedal. You use this in conjunction with the always-welcome 3-band EQ section to dial up your clean boost tones, as well as mix it in conjunction with the 2 other sections of the pedal for a plethora of sound. Knob #1 will take your clean boost tone and push it to the limit, creating a gorgeous slightly-overdriven amp sound that’s creamy and smooth, an indispensable part of this pedal. The second drive knob, #2, brings a beefier, more-aggressive and high-gain sound to the table. Used together with #1, this section will produce the balls-out overdrive and distortion sounds you’re searching for, all the while maintaining a clean and balanced tone, resulting in some of the most hauntingly powerful and warm sonic drive you’ll ever hear.

A completely re-designed look at a dirt pedal, with multiple options and configurations to behold, the Bumblebee from Hungry Robot Pedals is something you gotta hear and play with in order to truly figure out it’s potential, and what it can specifically do for you and your individual sound. Being able to switch the different modes on and off with such easy really allows you to change things in real time if need be, or find the perfect settings for your guitar and amp and never touch it again. If you’re not careful, you might end up with 2 of these on your board. Make sure you go check out the NEW HRP website, and see everything that Eric and the Hungry Robots are up to!
