Sure, other delays might have more bells and whistles, but this baby packs a lot of options into a small enough space so that it won’t take over your entire pedalboard, like some larger delays tend to do. That said, it also sounds great for being digital, still having some warm and inviting aspects of our old-time analog friends, but with a few modern twists to set it apart from those gems.

There are many functions to this pedal, so I’m going to do a general overview, and let you sink your teeth into it yourselves. There are 3 regular Echo modes, 3 Second, 1 Second and 300 ms +, each of which work together with the Decay, Repeats and Delay knobs. The same thing is true for the Multi-Tap modes: 3 Second, 1 Second and 1 Second + Reverse, which also all connect with the Decay, Repeats and Delay knobs, although using different parameters. It’s all in the manual, people, this pedal can do a TON of different stuff. The Reverse Echo is a really fun mode, too, as it twists your delayed signal around and plays it backwards, making for some spaced-out effects. Plus, you can use the Loop function while in ANY of these functions (except the Multi 1 Second + Reverse mode), and you can Overdub onto the Loop as well. All of the modes are controlled by the Hazarai knob, the only white one on the pedal. I have even gotten pretty good at using my foot to switch modes on-the-fly, which is pretty cool as well! Talk about a multi-functional delay, the SMMH has got it all. And, like I said before, it sounds fantastic, really analog-ish and not too harsh or tinny, like some digital delay tend to.

Not too big, lots of functions, built like an Brinks truck – this is one solid delay/looper/thingamabob. You gotta love the Tap Tempo switch and an active looper function, too, just for good measure. Electro-Harmonix keeps churning out great gear, and the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai is no exception – keep ’em coming, guys!
