boss dd-6 digital delayAnother Boss Delay? Well, if they would make a bad one, then we wouldn’t have to keep reviewing the good ones, would we? And, at least we’re not reviewing another overdrive pedal… All kidding aside, the DD-6 Digital Delay is a stripped-down version of their DD-5 model, which had a TON of options, too many for some folks. Going from 11 Mode choices to 6 simplifies everything, but still leaves all the options you’d want…and more.

I love delays with a Hold function. There, I said it. The DD-6 has an awesome Hold feature, which is always fun to mess around with, and you can usually find a good use for it somewhere in your live set, or perhaps more so in the studio. This Hold will last for 5 seconds, too, opening up the possibilities further. It also features a max delay time of 5200ms (when you’re in the Hold mode) – that’s over 5 FULL SECONDS of delay! I dig, man. 4 different delay modes achieve the maximum time frame for each one individually (80ms, 300ms, 800ms and 2600ms, respectively), and can be adjusted using the D.Time knob, or with a special built-in Tap Tempo feature. To access this, you just hold down the pedal for 2 seconds, and once the light turns from red to green, just adjust your delay tempo on the fly with your foot. Such a great feature, again so useful on stage to change rhythms and tones in a flash. The Reverse mode does exactly that, taking your guitar’s signal and spitting it out backwards at you, always a good time. Finally, the Warp setting scrambles and dissects notes and throws them at you in a jumbled, sonic mess, providing more options and adventures in your use of this fine pedal.

While it might not have all the flair of some bigger delay machines out there, the DD-6 is a perfect little unit to get your delay jobs done. With plenty of repeat time, plus a few cool features thrown in for good measure, you would really have to make a solid effort to TRY and not find a use for this in your signal path. Boss does it again!
