Fuzzrocious Pedals Grey Stache Fuzz

Immediately upon viewing the Fuzzrocious Pedals’ website, I knew they were doing some pretty inventive and creative things with their effects pedals, strictly from the artwork and amount of knobs alone. The Grey Stache is my first foray into their world of gear, and it is a monster. Plus, you can add any number of mods to make yours a custom job, and get it sounding exactly like you want. Let’s check it out!

My demo version of the Grey Stache has 4 knobs up top, a 3-way toggle switch in the middle and a special mod side toggle, plus an on/off switch on the right and an oscillation switch on the left. This might sound like a lot of dials, but they are all useful, and the more knobs you have, the more detailed you can get with your tone, you know? Volume and Tone are standard overdrive knobs, but I’m really diggin’ this Mids knob, as it has a nice range and can really give you that boost you need sometimes to cut through, but can also lay back and fit perfectly into any mix. The Sustain knob is a great addition as well, going from completely off when turned to the left to adding volume, boost and punch the more you turn it to the right. A really valuable tool for leads and power chords, this knob adds as little or as much oomph as you want into your signal path, again an essential part of this pedal’s sound.

The Diode toggle in the middle gives you 3 distinct clipping options to choose from: Silicon, No Diodes and LED. Three great options again allowing a specific dialing in of just about any kind of drive sound you can imagine, all the while working in conjunction with the rest of the pedal’s controls to give you what you want. The mod switch on the side is a Tone Bypass option, which cuts the Tone control from the mix and really opens up the sound, providing crystal clear sonic soundscapes. Another sweet addition is the Oscillation switch, which allows you to add in crazy overdriven feedback awesomeness at a moment’s notice, really opening up intro or outros and feedback jam sessions.

This pedal is nothing shy of a Tyrannosaurus Rex trapped in an overdrive: beefy, chunky, fuzz, driving, meaty, rocking and rad. So many tonal options in such a small enclosure – if you can’t find a sound you like, you’re doing it wrong, plain and simple.
