One-offs. Custom graphics. Scratch-N-Dent. One-of-a-kind pedals have a special quality about them that regular pedals just don’t, whether it’s a rehousing of an old pedal, a personal message or graphic, a banged-up enclosure…or a 2-in-1. This particular custom pedal comes to us from our friends Pepper Pedals in Atlanta, GA, and is a combo of their awesome Chipotle Distortion and Jalapeño Overdrive. Look out for this thing, it’s coming at’cha!

The Left side of this dual drive is Pepper Pedals’ Chipotle High-Gain Distortion, which conjures up Marshall tones ala the JCM 800, and can do quite a bit of tonal range as well. Volume and Gain do their respective duties, and the lower 2 knobs have been dubbed Body (Bass EQ) and Bite (Treble EQ), and both really provide a nice sweep in frequency to let you match the pedal’s tone to your amp’s output, enabling a perfect mesh of sounds to come shining through. This side gets downright nasty when cranked, really driving a nice tube amp into overload, while retaining the feel and sonic properties of your guitar and pickups.

The Right side is their Jalapeño Drive, which is a low-to-mid gain overdrive with Tube Screamer-like attitude, with a nice mid-range that acts transparent and warm, adding anything from a little beef to a full-on chunky stew. Volume, Tone and Drive controls are here to do their thing, but the 2 toggle switches are where the magic happens for the Jalapeño. Stuff acts like a bass enhancer, thickening up your tone and cutting the high end a bit, creating a smooth and rich overdrive. Seeds allows you to select from 3 different clipping modes: Compressed (down; asymmetrical silicon), Crunch (up; Red LED) or Boost (middle; removes diodes for an awesome boost section), allowing for an endless amount of sonic possibilities and combinations with the other controls onboard.

Both sides can be used together or separately, and there’s even an order toggle so you can choose which side you want to run first or second in your signal path. Great as individual pedals, killer as a team, the Chipotle and Jalapeño Dual Overdrive is another sonic work of art. Thanks to Joseph and Pepper Pedals for the pedal, always looking forward to what they’re going to come up with next!
