Moog Minifooger MF Analog Delay

Moog has been putting out incredible gear for decades, and their line of pedals is second to none. The newest additions to their line are the Minifooger pedals, which are basically compact versions of the big Moogerfoogers, but they still retain a lot of the characteristics and features of their big brothers. Being a huge delay fan, I decided the MF Analog Delay would be a good place to begin my journey in the Minifoogers, and I was right on the money.

First off, a delay pedal with a Drive section is just brilliant. Why not give your repeats a little gusto? The MF Delay does just that, but not to the point where it overpowers the delay signal, by any means. The Drive function really sent me for a loop, as I was both astounded and flabbergasted at how well it worked within the context of the rest of the pedals’ controls. Time, Feedback and Mix round out the 4 knobs present here, each playing their own specific part to make the pedal function as one strong unit. Feedback controls the amount of repeats, Mix adds as little or as much of the affected signal you want into your chain, and Time controls how long the delayed signal will be. Since this little guy is analog, the repeats are warm, rich and full, just like we like ’em. It works great with both neck (smoother, warmer tones) and bridge (more pronounced bite and punch, with a beefed-up high end) pickups on my Tele, and I was able to coax a vast number of tones I did not think would be possible from a pedal with as few controls as the MF Delay.

The Feedback control adds in the amount of repeats, but crank it up to the max, and you’ve got a self-oscillating, pulsating, mutating machine on your hands (all in a good way, I promise). Blend the Feedback and the Drive controls together, and you have got the makings of an incredible soundscape – you might not even have to touch your guitar, just twist and turn the controls to your heart’s content. This is a fine example of how much power you can shove into a relatively small enclosure, and is another step in the right direction for the Moog family. I’m looking forward to testing out the rest of the Minifooger line of pedals, but it will be hard to top my first one, this incredible MF Analog Delay.
