devi ever big distortion sound machineAs with all awesomeness that comes out of the Devi Ever factory, the Big Distortion Sound Machine makes noises that no other pedal does, which really is the brilliance of the company. Now paired with Dwarfcraft Devices, Devi Ever’s latest sonic destruction box will have you laughing, crying, barfing and possibly jumping for joy, depending. It hurts in the best way possible when cranked, and can soothe your wrecked eardrums a minute later. Let’s see what the BDSM is all about, eh?

This pedal actually runs 2 circuits in parallel…what? Basically, there’s 1 Input, from which your instrument’s signal is sent to 2 Fuzz circuits, which are then mixed down and spit out through OUT 2 on the side. One circuit is Devi’s The Ruiner Dark Boost Fuzz, the second is their Torn’s Peaker Fuzz. There’s also OUT 1, which means you can run 2 separate signals out to different amps, or to more pedals if you want, and mix them all together in a glorious stereo stew. Holy crap. Sound sophisticated for a distortion/fuzz pedal? That’s because it is.

On the Left side are the controls for the Torn’s Peaker circuit, but it’s actually the Deluxe version, with a few more add-ons. The Volume knob sets the mood and controls the fuzz, while the Zazz knob makes crazy changes to the overall tone, depending how you set it. Plus, if you use it on the fly while playing, you can coax some dark, space-age laser sounds to come out. Pure fun. The TP/AE knob adjusts the gain and tone, making it thicker or thinner, depending which way it’s turned. The Worse toggle selects the clipping inside, making for 2 completely different sonic realms to explore. The Right side is The Ruiner circuit, with 2 simple controls: Gain and Volume. The Gain knob is great, when cranked it will spit out the glitchiest, sputtering fuzz nonsense you’ve ever heard, and when rolled back, produces a warm and fuzzy fuzz.

Mix all of these together for a big bowl of distorted soup, ’cause that’s what you’re gonna get. It’s hard to put into words a lot of the Devi Ever pedals, and the Big Distortion Sound Machine is no different. You’ll have a blast trying to figure out what this thing can do, then trying to find what it CAN’T! Again, the most generous of Wisconsin folks, Ben and Louise, deserve much praise and thanks for sending me this sonic marvel. Every time a package arrives from them, I get excited, ’cause I never know what is in store for me next. Thanks, you two, keep making awesome gear! On Wisconsin!
