henretta engineering green zapper auto filterComing at’cha from Saint Paul, Minnesota, it’s the Green Zapper Auto Filter from Henretta Engineering! This little green box has tiny dimensions (2″ x 2″), but lots of heart to make up for it. Great for space-saving and adding a little funk into your playing. The Green Zapper is touch-sensitive, so the harder you play, the more effects you get. I found it to work much better for chords as opposed to individual notes, as the dynamics appear much more present when multiple notes are played simultaneously.

When you get into pedals this size, you might think you’re sacrificing options, but the Green Zapper has TWO internal adjustable trimpots, to enable you to dial in the sound you’re after. The first is controls the Range of the effect, or the width of the range of the frequencies being swept. The second is a Sensitivity trimpot, which helps control the dynamics and their sensitivity to your playing. You can also switch out the TL072 internal op amp as well, allowing you to experiment and find completely new sounds as well.

This pedal will probably not mow you down with it’s options or different sounds, but what it does, it does well. Adding just the right amount of funkified soul onto your pedalboard, it can be infused into your playing throughout the course of a set, sporadically or through a whole song, depending on where you need it most. Fun to use and absolutely adorable, the Green Zapper might be just what you’ve been looking for.
