Big Game Pedals Nothing Is Dead Fuzz

I’ve had a bunch of fuzz pedals come in for review recently, and they all have been sounding so good! Cheers to everyone making incredible fuzz pedals, as I think that’s a sound that is never going to get old. One of these such builders is Ryan from Big Game Pedals in Chicago, a small company with a good lineup of gear, and the awesome Nothing Is Dead Fuzz we’re going to take a look at today.

This fuzz is customizable, which right off the bat I thought was a great idea, letting the buyer pick and choose what options they want in a fuzz. Since I could pick and choose, I went with 3 mods: the Tone Bypass toggle, the diode switch toggle and the “Creamy Dreamer” mod, which basically just makes the Nothing Is Dead Fuzz more powerful, adding more gain to the circuit. The Diode toggle selects between Silicon, LED and no diodes, making it super easy to dial in a bunch of different sounds right away, without even turing any of the knobs. The Tone Bypass is a cool feature, too, as it takes the EQ section completely out of the pedal, thus adding another layer of versatility to the fuzz.

As far as the main controls go, they’re fairly basic, but all important and necessary in their own right. Volume, Tone, Sustain and Mids are the four knobs here, and sitting down with this pedal to dial it in was a blast. With all of these controls, plus the toggle options, this fuzz can produce almost any sound you can think that a pedal like this could do. Ryan even threw an LED into the eye of the skull graphic that indicates when the Tone Bypass mode is active – how’s that for custom? This fuzz is loud, raw, raunchy and powerful, but still retains clarity and crispness even at high volumes, and will really make your amp scream.

I’ve been digging the stuff the smaller pedal builders have been busting out lately, and this is one of my new favorite fuzzes. Allowing the buyer to pick and choose what goes into their pedal is a GENIUS idea, and as more and more companies saturate the pedal market, I think letting the customer help decide what goes into an pedal will be key to gaining and securing more business as a builder. Go see Ryan and Big Game Pedals, and let him conjure up a rad pedal just for you!
