Distortion pedals have always been sort of hit-or-miss for me – a lot of them are too harsh, too bold, too piercing or just not really my style. To each their own, of course, it just takes a pretty rad pedal to get me super-stoked about pumping some high gain through my amps. However, plugging in the Supernaut Distortion from Center Street Electronics turned my head around almost instantly, and the rest of the time testing out and reviewing this orange and white beast was an absolute pleasure.

Aesthetically, the Supernaut just looks cool, sort like a perfect pedal to pair with your big, loud Orange amp (not that those need any extra juice, mind you). Volume and Gain controls are about what you’d expect, and they do exactly what you think they do. The EQ section is broken up into both Treble and Bass knobs, always a plus in my book – the more control you can have over the lows and highs of any pedal, the better! Especially with distortion, you really want the ability to be able to dial in specific frequencies, and cut others out completely, depending on your guitar and amplifier setup.

The fun part about this pedal is the big, fat Shape knob right in the middle. This little work of art lets you select from SIX different modes, which help to shape the overall tone of the EQ. Some are punchy, some are low-end focused, some are just straight rock, but each one has a different characteristic, and sitting and changing modes and EQ settings is a joyous part of this pedals’s learning curve. With so many modes and such a great range of EQ in the Treble and Bass knobs, the sonic possibilities are truly endless.

Not to mention this thing sounds great! Hand-built, too, tough as nails and a true workhorse for your pedalboard, the Supernaut is not a pedal to be taken lightly. If you want heavy, crunchy, Stoner/Doom/Drone metal sounds, this might just be the only pedal you’ll need. Thanks to the crew at Center Street Electronics for sending this our way, make sure you go and check out the awesome lineup of pedals they’ve got waiting just for you!
