FoxPedal Foxtail Articulate Overdrive

Overdrive pedals are a tough but fun category of gear to deal with, at least in my opinion. Dealing with so many incredible choices can be daunting, frustrating, expensive and awesome, all at once, sometimes. On the plus side, there are lots of incredible drives to put through the ringer to see what they can do and how well they hold up to other greats in the industry. Our latest test drive (pun intended) comes to us from our friends at FoxPedal, who’ve been making killer boutique stuff for years, and the Foxtail Articulate Overdrive is absolutely no exception.

The Foxtail is about as diverse as you can get with a 3-knob overdrive, or a lot of other overdrives, actually. Not showing off too much, not being too fancy, this pedal has a great range of sounds and can do clean boost to aggressive chunk, but it’s what’s in between these 2 basic settings that really counts. Level, Tone and Gain are fairly standard control knobs, and if you’ve ever played any other overdrive before, you should be familiar with their functionality. What separates the Foxtail from other overdrives of the same makeup is the sensitivity and the dynamics that play right into your hands, literally, as what you choose to do and how you individually play shine through with glowing sparkle and finesse.

The drive sounds are warm, the distorted stuff is clean and crisp, even at high volumes, and the boost does just that, without coloring your tone, and keeping your original signal’s sound in tact. Simple yet diverse, easy-to-use yet hours of fun, and subtle but powerful at the same time. The Foxtail is another gem from FoxPedal – the video will give you a glimpse into it’s power and usability, but you really should rock one of these for yourself. Be sure to check out the FoxPedal website, too: they continue to impress with the high-quality pedal line they’re producing, and surely have something useful for every player out there.
