If you’re searching for a pedal to add some fatness and volume to your rig, the Pigtronix Class A Boost will help solve those problems.

Pedal specs:
– Input and Output jack
– Gain knob offering 20db of volume boost
– 9v/18V adapter jack (The pedal includes its own apapter)

Upon taking the Class A Boost for a test drive, this pedal lived up to it’s reputation as being a clean boost while adding a nice layer of sweetness to my tone.

I started using this pedal on the clean channel of a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Classic. When turning the gain knob clockwise, the obvious change was the signal getting louder but, surprisingly no clipping occurred. Instead, the Class A Boost added richness to my tone as well as plenty of volume. It was like taking a heavy blanket off of the amp and letting it “open up.” It should be noted that the pedal achieves this clean boost by using “Class A” FET transistors to keep the boost balanced and pure.

When using the Class A Boost on the distorted channel of the amp, I noticed the pedal hit the front end harder, creating a fatter and more focused tone. Whether it was rhythm or lead work, the pedal both enhanced and maintained tone.

It also plays nicely with other overdrive and distortion pedals. It either made pedals louder to cut through the mix or beefed them up depending on where it was placed in the signal chain.

The Class A Boost comes with it’s own 18 volt adapter to achieve maximum headroom and punch but can also be ran on a standard 9 volt adapter to soften and cut the high end of your tone.

The only drawback of the pedal is that there is NO battery compartment.

In conclusion, the Class A Boost from Pigtronix is a pedal for the guitarist that wants a little extra “oomph” and volume to his or her rig. It works well with single coils, humbuckers, and acoustic pickups. It is also painted in a tuxedo design to show off it’s classiness.
