keeley electronics 1962 british overdriveI want to just say right up front that this pedal from Keeley Electronics oozes quality. It just pours out of it. It’s solid, well bit and the finish is flawless. Very understated and clean looking. You can tell right away that it’s not an imported piece of tin. Built solid and to last. The simple gold stripe with the 1962 off to the side is a very classy way to say it’s what’s on the inside that counts.

Now the fun part. I play at home for me, my dog Sparkey and occasionally the cat. Doodles. I mostly play through small, one to five watt tube combos. I love the Blackstar HT1-R and the Vox AC4TV. My main amp for my pedal board is an Orange Micro Terror and 8″ speaker cab. I’d love to get the sound of a Marshall stack or a Bluesbreaker but I know it’s not possible with my gear. I can come close. But not exactly there. Until now. I don’t know how the masterminds at Keeley & Co. do it, but every pedal I’ve tried of theirs has been a wonder. This one is no exception.

Out of the velvet like bag it came in, plugged into the board we were off. With a few adjustments I went from a singing, soaring lead tone, with what seemed like sustain for days, to a Cream-y, Green-y crunch. After a while spent trying different settings, I settled into one that had me playing A Whole Lotta Love, for a whole lotta time. I’m going to miss that EHX Soul Food, but it’s spot has been taken. Permanently. You’ve got to try it to believe it. If the 1962 British Overdrive makes my little rig sound this good, I can only imagine what it could do……
