electro-harmonix micro pog polyphonic octave generatorWhen it comes to pedals, I love a good overdrive, a sweet analog delay and a big, fat wah, for sure, but when a company comes up with something that makes new, exciting and not-often-heard-before sound effects, those kinds of pedals make my ears start to smile. While octave pedals are not a NEW genre, per se, the Micro POG from Electro-Harmonix is a beast unto itself, a fresh and new take on a classic sound, with a couple of great options to make it a truly sought-after tone.

While some octave pedals just allow youMicro to add a note one octave above OR below your original note, the Micro POG allows you to do BOTH simultaneously, resulting in a multitude of options and sounds to play around with. With the controls being simpler than the original POG, the Micro POG allows for easy adjustment and total tonal control over what sounds the pedal produces. Dry mixes your guitar’s original signal with the POG’s effect, blending them together seamlessly, with as little or as much of either side as is needed for your setup. The other 2 control knobs are Sub Octave, which controls the notes an octave below the original, and Octave Up, controlling those notes one octave up from the original.

The coolest thing about having these two separate controls is that you can turn on as little or as much of EITHER one, letting you mix and match to form unique tones that accentuate an octave up, an octave down, or BOTH at the same time. Using just the Sub Octave will grab some fat, low-end notes and add a nice layer of sound to your original note, while the Octave Up gives your signal a bit of a slight boost and adds in more harmonic elements to your signal path. When used together, the sonic possibilities are truly endless, making for hours upon hours of experimentation and discovery.

As usual, Electro-Harmonix has made a pedal that cannot be destroyed by conventional weapons, and is sure to become a long-lasting staple on any board it comes in contact with. For more octave fun, be sure to check out the new Nano POG and the wicked awesome POG2, plus all the other amazing gear EHX has to offer. Cheers!
