Varying in degrees of control knobs and sonic options, some simpler and others more complex, there are a ton of setups to choose from. The Static Fuzz from IdiotBox Effects is kinda in the middle, with simple controls, plus one awesome added bonus, and features a huge range of tones for you to work with.

Drive, Volume and Tone knobs are the cornerstones of the control section here, and come at you with wide ranges of tone on tap. The output Volume is more than adequate, as the Static Fuzz will get nice and loud, especially with the gain up past 3:00. The Tone control has a nice low end presence, and when you add in more high end, it’s almost like a natural boost section becomes available, ramping up both the tone and volume at the same time. The Drive, too, features a great range, from a chunky, tube-esque overdrive fuzz sound to a crazy, off-the-wall glitchy fuzz that is unpredictable and wicked exciting.

The real gem in the control section is the giant knob that is pretty much the first thing you notice on this pedal: the White Noise “Static Generator” knob. Adding in a whole new element of sound over the top of the overdriven/distorted/fuzzy tone, the White Noise is a blast to put into the signal, and will yield unruly and glorious sonic results. If you’re really fast on your feet, too, you can control the giant knob with your foot, for even more in-the-moment tonal changes right on stage, or in the middle of a solo in the studio if you want as well. Creating a new wash of glitchy, buzzy, fuzzy tones, this knob embraces everything we all love about fuzz pedals, but keeps the levels and weirdness just under control enough to make it useful in a variety of musical situations.

With a ton of fuzz, a great overdrive as well, plus some great glitchiness and sustain out the wazoo, the Static Fuzz is a champ in the effects pedal department. With it’s beautifully etched enclosure and so many sounds to choose from, it’ll be hard to put this thing down once you pick it up and plug it in. Immense thanks go out to Matt and the staff at IdiotBox Effects for sending this over to review – wait til you check out their website, too, you’ll be lucky if you get out of there with any credit left on your card!
