Having reviewed such classic Selah Effects’ pedals as the Feather Drive and Scarlett Love, we were excited to check out their first foray into the world of fuzz, and were not disappointed. Exemplifying a broad range of sounds, from thick and driven to glitchy and wacky, the Misty Mountain Fuzz offers something for everyone who digs this genre of pedal, and with simple controls in a gorgeous enclosure, dialing in a distinct but glorious fuzz is about as easy as it gets.

Tone and Level are the first two control knobs on the Misty Mountain, giving you both a nice range to adjust the high and low frequencies, and plenty of output volume to make sure all your fans hear this fuzzy goodness even in the back row of the arena. Mist allows you to adjust the overall gain or fuzz portion of the pedal, again featuring a great range, with plenty of usable tones. Capable of everything from a light-ish overdrive sound to a balls-to-the-wall fuzz, this knob is sure to be a big help in dialing in your sound.

The Gate knob is what really helps this pedal in its uniqueness. Adjusting the noise production coming from the Misty Mountain, this control will do everything from break-up amp sounds to old school video game glitches and tweaks, with a huge range to experiment with in between those extremes. When turned down, the Gate produces a very usable, normal-sounding fuzz, but when you crank it up past 12:00 or so, the craziness comes pouring out in buckets, allowing for creative and unpredictable noises to emanate from your amp with great vengeance and furious anger.

All in all, the Misty Mountain is an extremely individualistic and experimental fuzz, great for those of us who love a lots of controls to twist and turn to find new and exciting sounds. Throw this baby blue beauty onto your pedalboard and watch the fireworks begin. Be sure to check out our reviews of other Selah Effects pedals, and head over to their website to see what’s new in their shop as well!
