We’ve reviewed the first two pedals produced by the SFG Music Supply crew up in British Columbia, and have been impressed by both. The Howlerr Classic Overdrive was a lower-gain, almost boost-like drive, while the Back Burner Vintage Delay was a sweet short delay slapback gem. From vintage sounds and graphics to hand-built quality pedals and parts, these guys know what’s what, and are coming out swinging into the pedal world. Their third effect offering is today’s featured pedal, the Privateer Overdrive, a simple-to-use and great-to-experiment-with effect that’s sure to “boost” your curiosity (hehe).

With a simple control section, it’s not going to take a rocket scientist to figure out how it works. However, even though there aren’t a ton of options, the range of these controls, plus a lone toggle, make the Privateer versatile as can be. Volume offers a ton of overall output, while the Gain knob will paint broad sonic stokes across your tone, from a low growl to a searing, scorching, amp-like overdrive that will make your speakers bleed tone. The toggle switch lets you add in even more options, selectable between Bright and Dark modes, acting as a simple EQ with a couple settings for dialing in your own unique sound.

The Privateer is a high-gain overdrive pedal that features symmetrical clipping from silicon diodes, and is driven by a single transistor amplifier stage, for classic tones and a whole lot of power. Two knobs, one switch, and that’s all you need. Plenty of both volume and gain on tap, this is one green monster that’s sure to turn some heads at your gig. Make sure to check out SFG Music Supply on Reverb.com – they’ve got all the pedals we’ve reviewed for them up for sale, and at great prices so if you wanna pick one up for yourself, head on over! Can’t wait to see what creations they astonish us with in the future as well!
