A little over a year ago, we reviewed a great overdrive, the Furry Burrito, from a pretty new-at-the-time company, Yellowcake Pedals. We were quite impressed by their flagship pedal, and stood in high anticipation for the next 14 months to get our hands on their next effect. When the time finally came and the pedal arrived on our doorstep, we were equally wowed by their second offering, today’s featured pedal, the Fried Gold Overdrive.
As far as the control panel for the Fried Gold is concerned, there’s nothing too crazy or complex about it. Level gives off all the output power you could want, and then some, Tint is a subtle tone control that adds a bit of extra glass and presence to the drive and Gain lets you adjust from a mild overdrive to a blown out fuzz-ish territory sound. The Fried Gold excels at adding a nice range of drive sounds to your clean tone, as well as beefing up your amp’s dirty channel by giving it an extra bit of oomph and punch.
When all is said and done, this pedal not only will add an element of awesome overdrive to your sound, but will also help push your favorite tube amp into sweet, sparkling breakup territory with ease. Using a powdercoated and UV printed aluminum enclosure, the Fried Gold Overdrive is hand-built with high-quality parts, and will last forever if you treat it right.
