function f(x) clusterfuzz Fuzz. There are a ton of killer fuzz pedals out in the world, and we are all privy enough to be around to witness them in all their glory. That said, there are many, many different types of fuzz to experiment with, but sometimes you just want a ton of options in one pedal that you can easily access and use to your advantage, right? If that’s the case, the Clusterfuzz from Function f(x) might be just the pedal you’ve been searching and patiently waiting for.

Volume, Tone and Fuzz make up the main portion of the controls on the Clusterfuzz, but that is just where it all begins. An 8-bit knob lets you dial in some incredible gated fuzz sounds, adding a new and unexpected element to any “normal” fuzz you might be used to. There’s also a lone toggle switch, Filter, which lets you choose between two separate fuzz voicings, opening up even more sonic possibilities and fuzz sounds to explore.

The real shining element on the Clusterfuzz is its Mode knob, which offers FIVE different clipping options for different saturation levels (no diode clipping, LED, FET transistors, and two silicon options). With this amount of control and functionality, there’s not a fuzz sound you can’t dial in, from smooth and creamy overdriven buzz to wacky, sustained, over-the-top walls of fuzz, all to your ears’ delight. Mix these modes with the above controls and watch out – you might not leave your practice space for a few days.

function f(x) logoUtilizing modern components and proper bias, the Clusterfuzz is a reliable and sonically brilliant piece of gear, especially for fuzz enthusiasts. Plus, we love the soft bypass switch and top-mounted jacks as well, which only add to the appeal and character of this rust-colored beauty. Not only a great fuzz, but an excellent tone-shaper as well, the Clusterfuzz is destined to become a staple on pedalboards the world over. Thanks to everyone at Function f(x) for sending this monster over for us to review, we’re looking forward to checking out what’s next in your effects arsenal!
