TWA WR-03 Wah Rocker® Envelope Filter Sort of continuing a recent trend here at Pedal of the Day, we have yet another awesome envelope filter to check out today, and one that is based on a classic and sought-after effect. The WR-3™ from Guyatone has become a pedal of great legend, and since it’s discontinuation a few years ago, has also become rare and high-priced as well. Used by Guthrie Govan, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Salas and more, there’s a good chance you have heard this little beauty in action, and wondered where that sound came from. Today’s pedal, the WR-03 Wah Rocker® from TWA and Godlyke Distributing, takes the Guyatone version, spins it around and creates a new and powerful tool for bringing the funk.

Starting off the control panel, Threshold determines the degree of the effect, while Decay determines the effect’s speed. These two knobs were the main controls on the original Guyatone unit, but TWA has improved on and added to the options available on this funk machine. A Range control allows you to adjust the overall frequency band in which the filter is weeping, so you can adjust it manually and still keep your playing style the same. A Gain control is an output control, but if you crank it up a bit, will give you a wonderful boost as well, and unlike the original WR-3™, won’t get lost in the mix.

The Blend control has been improved upon, too, and is now a smooth variable control, as opposed to a simple dry blend switch on the WR-3™. This allows for a much beefier bottom-end, and, subsequently, a nice, wide variety of tones. Finally, as an added bonus, there’s a Guitar/Bass switch, that lets you select the built-in sounds of yet another classic pedal, the Bottom Wah Rocker®. Get all the super-fat, low-end swamp that such players as Juan Alderete and Justin Chancellor enjoy with just the flick of a switch. Plus, the WR-03 also features TWA’s proprietary S3™ “Shortest Send Switching”, which is a form of True Bypass that uses electronic relays combined with a mechanical switch. Basically, this switching assures that the input signal travels the absolute shortest distance between input and output jacks, guaranteeing the most transparent bypass tone available.

TWA LogoWe love the funk pedals here at POTD, and the Wah Rocker® is no exception to that rule. This little purple treasure is super-funky, super-versatile and Totally Wycked – the WR-03 is your classic “duck in a box” effect. Thanks as always to Kevin over at Godlyke Distributing for sending this pedal our way – he has been a big supporter of us here for years now, and want to let everyone know how much we appreciate it. They handle TWA, Maxon, and Emma Electronic as well, so head on over to their site and see the massive selection of tasty tools they’ve got for your rig.
