Red Witch Pedals Synthotron Analog Synth We have reviewed several effects from Red Witch Pedals here at Pedal of the Day, and each time, it’s an adventure for both the mind and the ears. Today’s featured pedal may top the list in regards to both those things, as the Synthotron Analog Synth is capable of producing an insane amount of noises, sounds and tones, some predictable, some outrageous and all Red Witch, for sure. Let’s dive right into this dual-effect monster, shall we?

We suggest you start with one or the other effect on the Synthotron, or your entire brain might explode, so it’s best to ease on in. The Red and Orange boxes hold the controls for the first and second oscillators found in the Synthotron, with controls for determining the pitch of the oscillator note, the volume level of each oscillator in the mix and either a short of long decay time for each individual oscillator as well. The Light Blue box holds controls from turning the tremolo function on or off, Velocity for setting the speed of the tremolo and a Dry knob for blending in your instrument’s dry signal for added clarity.

The Dark Blue box sets the controls for the Filter section, utilizing a toggle switch that goes between Envelope Filter and Sample Hold modes for a wide array of sounds. The Range controls sets the sweep for the envelope, and only works with the Filter section, while the Velocity control sets the speed of the sample hold, and only works in that particular mode as well. Click both of the individual effects’ footswitches on at the same time, and hold on to your hats, ’cause it’s about to get insane (in the best way, though, trust us).

The detailed video below will give you more insight and help explain this pedal a bit more, but let us tell you, it is FUN. By experimenting with different pick attacks, pickup selections and more, the Synthotron basically transforms your guitar into a new instrument, one that you must sit down and almost re-learn, in order to attempt and tame this pedal. Cheers again to the crew at Red Witch Pedals for another exciting, unique and innovative piece of gear that will surely create entirely new genres of music, or at least make the existing ones a little more exciting.
