DAG Pedals Supamodel MkIII Fuzz Fuzz pedals just put a big smile on your face, don’t they? If not, you need to work on that, but for the rest of us, there are fuzzy gems like today’s featured pedal, the Supamodel MkIII Fuzz from DAG Pedals on the Island of Mallorca. Tall and slender, but beefy and tough just the same, this pedal exudes a tremendous amount of fuzz with ease, and will slip onto any pedalboard with ease as well.

Three controls make up this elongated effect: Volume, Gain and Bias. The Volume and Gain knobs do precisely what they should, with plenty of both on tap, and a nice range of tones to extract from the Gain side as well. The Bias knob is where the Supamodel really stands out in the mix, adjusting the current flowing into a third internal transistor, sending that circuit into oscillation when cranked, for some off-the-wall, noise-infused fuzz tones unheard anywhere else.

Creating wicked, stop-on-a-dime gated fuzz tones, you can use your pick attack to alter how the pedal sounds at certain settings, or let those power chords ring out with all the sustain you can handle at others. Chunky, bold, sludgy and doom-filled are a few ways to describe the sonic spectrum covered by the Supamodel MkIII, with a ton of sweet spot settings you can remember (or write down if you’re old like us) and call up quickly with the small control section. This slender beauty is also a Germanium/Silicon hybrid, with two germanium transistors being pushed by a silicon transistor, for a multitude of tones.

According to DAG Pedals, this is the third and FINAL incarnation of the Supamodel Fuzz, so who knows how many more will be made before their run comes to an end. Glad we were able to get our hands on one of these guys, as it is a true experimental fuzz, and while you can get some traditional fuzz sounds out of it, the fun is all in the obscure and wacky textures it provides. Special thanks go out to the DAG Pedals team for sending this guy across the pond for us to check out – we’re hoping to have more reviews of their gear coming soon, so check back for that, and check out their website while you wait!
