Escape Plan Pedals Science Friction Interplanetary Delay Drive Combining 2 pedals into one is always a fun and semi-rare treat, but when it combines 2 effects from completely different genres, that’s where the magic happens. Today’s featured pedal, the Science Friction Interplanetary Delay Drive mixes the grit of overdrive with the echoes of delay, in a most creative way, we might add. Not your normal pedal, or even your normal 2-in-1, this thing will really get the creative juices flowing.

The control panel is a straight across shot of six knobs and nothing else, making it relatively easy to use and extremely fun to experiment with. Space controls the time between echo repeats, while Size adjusts the number of the repeats. The Mix knob controls how much echo effect you want to add to your signal, and Tone is a versatile tone section that also affects the delayed signal. Drive lets you set the overall gain level, from slight to furious, and Level finishes things off as the pedal’s master volume control.

Switching things up a bit from the “normal” effects chain configurations, the Science Friction actually takes the delay and feeds IT into the drive section, rather than having the delay AFTER the dirt, like a lot of setups have it ordered. This opens up new and uncharted sonic possibilities in strange and glorious ways, allowing for spacey, post-punk sounds, surf rock-style slap back tones and even add a little reverb with the echo time turned down.

This wicked rad pedal can also be a great lead/solo effect, as you basically can set it to be a tasty delay for lead licks with a boost after it, to punch through the mix and stand out in the crowd, no matter what the venue might be. Continuing to impress and surprise us, we gotta give a big shout out to Andy and everyone at Escape Plan Pedals – we’ve loved reviewing their gear up til now, and can’t wait to do more in the near future. Check back soon for our look at the Dirty Old Man 2, but for now, head over to their website for more killer pedals galore!
