EarthQuaker Devices Sea Machine Chorus V2 Chorus is a great effect, when used in the right context. I suppose the same could be said about any other effect, but chorus really seems to have a special following of haters, while other players consider it a crucial part of their signature sound. As with most pedals from EarthQuaker Devices, the Sea Machine is not a traditional chorus effect, but instead another gorgeous re-imagining of a classic effect with those very special EQD touches not found anywhere else.

The LFO section contains Shape, Rate and Intensity controls: Shape seamlessly blends between a soft, triangle waveform and a harder, square waveform; Rate adjusts the overall speed of the low-frequency oscillator, while Intensity decides how much the LFO modulates the delay time. As far as the short delay section, that is made up of Depth, Dimension and Animation. Depth acts as a mix control for your original dry signal and the effects from the Sea Machine, Dimension adds slap-back, reverb-like and echo-ish ambiance to the signal, depending where this knob is set. Animation rounds things out, and controls how far the pitch-shifted signal swings, with a traditional chorus sound to the left, and an experimental, animated pitch shifted sound when turned clockwise.

The Sea Machine Chorus V2 also features an extended delay time, which really makes it stand out from other choruses, and a lot of other effects on your board, too. Combining analog and digital circuitry, it plays well with other pedals like fuzz and overdrive, and leaves your dry signal unaffected and crystal clear when bypassed, thanks to a transparent internal buffer. As far as the actual chorus sounds, you can create a broad range with this seaworthy pedal, from traditional sounds to weirdo pitch bends to space station alien-type stuff, the Sea Machine is capable of a whole slew of rad tones.

If you need to add some shimmery modulation and sparkle to your rig, there’s no better place to start than the Sea Machine Chorus V2, which is housed in a smaller enclosure than its predecessor, and it had-made with high-quality parts and love in Akron, Ohio. The kids at EarthQuaker Devices have once again created a sonic masterpiece that truly must be played to be understood, but please make sure to check out our demo video below while you’re waiting patiently for yours to arrive in the mail!
