Paradox Effects Fuzz-E Cat Fuzz Here at Pedal of the Day, we’ve had the pleasure to review a number of pedals by the always-entertaining and a bit off-the-cuff Paradox Effects, and we’re happy to have another of their enclosures on hand for today’s review. If you want fuzz, you checked out our website on the right day, to say the least. The Fuzz-E Cat pushes the limits of sound (and your eardrums), but in only the best ways possible. Let’s see what she’s got in store!

Being a relatively simple pedal, you might think the Fuzz-E Cat is just a one0trick pony, offering up one basic fuzz tone and that’s it. Well, you’d be dead wrong, in fact: while there are only 2 knobs and one toggle switch, the sonic exploration this pedal can take you on is nothing short of astonishing. Volume obviously isn’t going to knock your socks off, as it does only one thing, and features plenty of it to go around. The Fuzz knob has a HUGE range of tones, and when mixed with both modes of the toggle switch, gives off a wide variety of swampy, grungy, sustained fuzz, yet remains clear and present, without the danger.

The two modes of the Fuzz-E Cat‘s toggle are Oscillation and Gate. In Oscillation mode, the Fuzz knob controls the effect’s frequencies, ranging from lower-end, Muff-style sounds to higher-pitched, thinner, less dense tones. In Gate mode, the oscillation is eliminated, leaving you with a raw, unfiltered but hiss-free fuzz sound, and here the Fuzz knob helps to control the pulse width of a square wave, which in turn changes the distorted signal’s Timbre completely. Wicked silent when you’re not playing, this mode gets unleashed when you strike the strings of your guitar, and will do a bunch of cool octave tones with ease and grace.

Simple yet powerful, user-friendly but containing many different tones and housed in a funky enclosure, the Fuzz-E Cat is a much-play fuzz pedal, and one that will expand your sonic horizons once added to your rig. You can even use the Volume control on your guitar to play around with different oscillations, too, thus opening up even more possibilities with this pedal. Thanks as always to the crew at Paradox Effects for sending another badass piece of gear our way to check out – read our reviews on the Oniric Delay and Defibrillator Fuzz, and then go buy all of them from the Paradox website! Cheers!
