Nunomo LLC Limbo Overdrive A couple weeks ago, we reviewed a pedal like none we had seen before, the S-AMP Cabinet Simulator/Headphone Amp from Nunomo LLC. Today, we’ve got their next adventurous piece of gear for you to check out, and it’s defying all logic and traditional overdrive building as well. With a new set of controls to dial in some excellent overdrive tones, let’s check out the new and exciting Limbo Overdrive, k?

While most overdrive pedals (most, we said) feature Volume, Tone and Gain controls, or something along the three-control lineup, the Limbo Overdrive takes a different approach, which then yields some different types of gain sounds. Along with the aforementioned knobs, this drive features two additional controls which adjust and change the clipping voltage seamlessly. Plus, due to the fact that they are knobs with range instead of straightforward toggle switches, the possibilities of sonic exploration immediately become vast and powerful.

One control knob is Positive, and the other is Negative, allowing for sharper sounds, more headroom, symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping options when the clipping voltage is high. When it’s low, you get a more rounded and mid-focused sound, with less volume output and smoother tonal range. The actual Drive and Tone sections of the Limbo Overdrive have been carefully designed, too, to create a well-balanced overdrive effect, with a wide range of sounds available, but not pushing into high-gain or distortion territory at all, making for a more transparent-type drive.

Hand-painted and assembled in California, the Limbo Overdrive is a fun and exciting new gain pedal that seeks to quash all our preconceived notions about what an overdrive should be, and shines a light on what could become the norm down the line. So far, Nunomo LLC is knocking ’em dead, and are absolutely 2-for-2 in pedal production with their first couple of offerings. Thanks to Ryan for sending us another creation to test out – please help support small pedal builders with innovative thoughts and creative pedal offerings, and go check out their website now (after you watch the demo video, of course).
