Crazy Tube Circuits Splash MK3 ReverbWe’ve had the pleasure of reviewing and testing out a couple of pedals from Crazy Tube Circuits here in the past, and since they were all in the dirt box category, we were pretty stoked when they sent us a reverb pedal, just to mix it up a little bit. Well, the Splash Mk3 Reverb did not disappoint in the least, further confirming that now is a true golden age of pedal production on Earth. Coming to you all the way from Greece, let’s check this ambient beast out, shall we?

There are three main algorithm modes you can choose from (via toggle switch) on the Splash Mk3:

I: From touch of ambience to a spacious pad effect
II: Moderately-sized reverb, from spring style to room and hall
III: Large reverb sounds, from hall to big ambience

These three modes are controlled by a couple of different knobs, sometimes performing a different function depending what mode you’re in. Excite adds some presence and harmonics to the effect, while also controlling the pre-delay (o-100ms) when in Mode I. Decay then controls the reverb tail, taking it to almost infinite levels when maxed out in Mode I. Mix/Kill Dry sets the blend of your wet and dry signals, but is also a push/pull switch, and when pulled out and maxed, turns your Splash MK3 into a 100% Wet effect when cranked all the way up. In a great twist, the Volume control rounds things out, but actually acts as a BOOST control, with up to +7dB of volume boost on tap for your signal, to make sure it doesn’t get buried in the mix. Rad.

As the demo below will demonstrate, the Splash Mk3 Reverb is a brilliant venture into the world of the ambient, and is a perfect fit (both size-wise and sonically) for today’s modern players. Boasting studio quality tones in a smaller-than-usual enclosure, this guy is pedalboard-friendly without losing any of it’s mojo. Thanks so much to Crazy Tube Circuits for sending this aqua pedal on an lengthy journey across the Atlantic – we hope to see more of their pedals in our near review future!
