Mammouth Machine Pedals 8Bit-Tron

Mammouth Machine 8Bit-Tron Continuing right where we left off yesterday, we’ve got another awesomely oddball pedal for you today, and it is also one of the most fun ones we’ve had come through our office. The 8Bit-Tron is a strange and marvelous creation from Mammouth Machine, an envelope filter that wants to be a fuzz but is trapped in the body of a bitcrusher and listens to a lot of Jerry Garcia and Stevie Wonder (from the 70’s, of course). If that doesn’t peak your interest, please close your browser window and stop playing music altogether, k?

This awesome purple people eater has few controls, but the range they boast is BIG, making for plenty of sonic discovery and wonderment. The left knob, Frequency, controls the sampling frequency, while the right knob, Range, sets how much the filter moves in response to the input signal. There’s a toggle switch present here, too, to round out the controls, and it lets you choose either a Hi or Lo frequency range in which the filter portion of the pedal moves.

The sounds that emanate from the 8Bit-Tron are a mix of blips and glitches, thrown together into a batter made of fuzz and funk. At times tame, other times spaced-out and glorious, this unique effect lays waste to most pedal in these similar categories, but with the options to use them together or separately, it opens up a new spectrum of sounds for you (and your audience) to thoroughly enjoy.

Mammouth Machine LogoAs with yesterday’s unusual piece of gear, the 8Bit-Tron is one you gotta sit down with and have fun, fun, fun. This thing can be a pedal that plays nice, or it can be a wacked-out inventor of new sonic marvels not yet heard, it all depends on how you choose to use it. A perfect fit for knob-twisted and sound-experimenters, you’ll be tweaking and twerking this thing around for weeks. Thanks so much to Jérémy and Mammouth Machine for shipping this radiant beast across the pond for us to check out – they’re got a whole slew of cool effects pedals in their lineup, so make sure you head over to their site and see what else they’ve got in store for you!
