Andrew Scherzer 1

How long have you been a musician? How did you get into it in the first place?

I’ve been playing for about 13 years. I literally started playing bass because my best friend Lee Crossen got me a ticket to see George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic. That was it…no joke, I went home at 1 in the morning and my pops was gettin some cereal in his bath robe and I asked “ an we trade my guitar in and get a bass because that’s what I’m doing for the rest of my life.” He said yep and we did. Think I was 17. Shout out to Lee Crossen who owns “figure Effects”. He makes doooope turret board pedals

Who have been some of your major musical influences, past or present?

That’s really hard to answer. There are so god damn many influences on my playing. Pino Palladino for sure, D’angelo, Scott LaFaro, Bill Evans, J Dilla, John Coltrane. I really could go on forever and still feel like I’m leaving someone out.

What drew you to using pedals initially? Have you been using them throughout your playing career? How have pedals helped to shape your sound, or influence the style that you’ve created?

Well, I’ve never been traditionalist about anything and am self taught so I’ve never had any rules. I think the first pedal I got after about year of playing when I kept asking what the hell is all that dope wah shit on all these dope funk tracks?? Then got an autowah. I’ve used alllll kinds of ish through out the years, and have a fear that the more effects I can afford, the worse my addiction towards making loud noises will get and I’ll be murdered by a sound man. Whatever I gotta use to make the sound then that’s what I gotta do.

What’s your current setup look like? Take us through your pedal rig (feel free to include amps and instruments as well if you’d like):

Funny enough, right now I’ve barely been using any of my pedals other than my electro-harmonix micro synth. However that’ll change soon again. Other stuff that pops in and out of my set up would be, electro harmonix iron lung vocoder, line six loop delay, a few different octave pedals, ibanez compresser sustainer, digitech whammy pitch shifter, cry baby and a bunch of random stuff that I don’t have with me and can’t remember what there names are. I’m planning on adding midi pickups to my six string ibanez terra firma to control a Roland Juno 106. I also play a fender jazz bass.

Favorite type of pedal (drive, delay, fuzz, etc. – more than one answer is always acceptable!):

ALL.OF.THEM

You’re stranded on a desert island – which three (3) of the following do you want to have?

Instruments: None
Amps: None
Pedals: None – I can’t eat any of that shit and there’s no electricity!

What’s up next for you/your band(s)?

We just released our latest album, HEATWEAVER, and are working on tour now. We have some dates with Lettuce and the Motet late September and November

The Klon hype: Love it or Hate it?

I’ll use a 100 dollar bass through a 50 dollar tube screamer and be lovin’ life. You wanna spend $1,800 cause you need that Klon sound…. … …you need to be on that Klon…do it up. You do what you do for your sound but watch out for that Hype.

Any last comments, promos or anything you’d like to talk about?

Yeah I knocked my tooth out so come to our shows so I can afford to get a gold tooth, eat healthy because your gut biome can heal you, be mindful, down with xenophobia up with chillin, peace love ice cream.
