Tube Screamers are one of the most popular effects pedal models of all time, whether you dig ’em or not. There have been many, many recreations of these fine machines as well, some with excellent tones that nearly match the originals, some that don’t get as close or fall a bit short in overall sound. Today’s pedal absolutely falls into the former category, in the fine tradition of well-defined craftsmanship and tone that we’ve come to know and love from Fuchs Audio Technology. Let’s check out the Plush® Cream II™ Overdrive, shall we?
As far as the control section is concerned, Level, Tone and Gain are what you’d expect to find on a pedal of this nature, and that’s exactly what you get….but there’s more. A Shape toggle switch lets you choose between 2 marvelous modes: the first retains the famous tones the original Cream pedal is known for, while the new second mode provides a lower gain, more compressed sound, similar to the Plush® Drive pedal in Fuchs’ lineup. While both these modes vary in tones, they are both extremely useful in a flurry of differing musical scenarios, and will provide a little breakup in the otherwise usual monotony a regular 3-knob overdrive usually gives you.
There’s no quality spared under the hood of the Plush® Cream II™, either: it features a selected integrated circuit, along with carefully selected resistor and capacitor components, making it a quiet but dynamic pedal. Responding excellently to your pick attack or fingerstyle force, this overdrive has a great tube amp feel, running smooth tones and articulate lead lines, for an overall great-sounding and performing effect.
