Moxtronix TransTone FuzzHailing from the Endangered Audio Research family, today’s featured piece of gear comes to us under the moniker of Moxtronix, and is entitled the TransTone Fuzz. This small grey beauty has a TON of options and sounds just waiting to be dialed in, explored, abused and left for dead, all of which you’ll have no problem doing as your ears bask in the glow of a magnificent, fuzzy wonderland. But, first things first, let’s actually check out the pedal and see what she can do…

Now, fuzzes that feature controls for 2 dirt sections are always welcomed around here, and the TransTone does just that. The Fuzz knob lets you adjust the overall amount of distortion, while the Gain knob gives you control over the amount of signal drive to the clipping amplifier. These controls were designed to interact with each other, giving a huge range of tones and sounds to be utilized in many different ways. Add in a Level knob for the overall output volume, and a Boost knob to add some gain to lead work (activated by a second footswitch), and you’ve got a real beast of a pedal to work with. However…

…they’re not done yet! Two toggle switches are also present here, waiting and hoping for you to dig in and discover even more tones than you thought possible. When the Soft one is switched up, you get a more modern fuzz sound; when switched down, a germanium-like tone appears as if out of nowhere, beckoning you to follow wherever it may lead. Subsequently, the Filter toggle has a flat frequency response when switched up, and acts as a high-pass filter when in the down position.

While the TransTone used the classic ToneBender as inspiration, it is a unique design, and one filled with more fuzz options than you’re gonna know what to do with. Featuring so many options and sounds packed into a retro-esque enclosure, and the ability to accept both low and line-level signals, this may become the missing piece of the puzzle that your musical arsenal has been searching for. Thanks to Mark and the crew at Endangered Audio/Moxtronix for letting us check out this gem – we love the stuff they’re coming out with, so stay tuned for reviews and demos from their latest gear coming in the next little while!
