Ross Stereo DelayOld school, vintage, classic delays really just can’t be beat. Plain and simple. You plug it in, get that little background hum going, and then hit that first note, and the smile just washes over your face. Today’s pedal is one of the more rare and coveted analog delay from the ’70’s, from Ross, a company probably best known for creating the (in many opinions) greatest compressor of all time. We are, however, talking about their analog Stereo Delay, which features some hard-to-find internal components, and some absolutely killer echo tones.

The Ross is a warm, analog delay. It features two output channels so you can run it in stereo: Local and Remote, as they are labeled, each one with it’s own Mix control knob. There is a Delay knob to control the overall time of the delay, and a Recycle control, which is just a cool way to label the repeats knob. As with most classic analog delays, the max time is around 600ms or so, maybe a little bit more. The true analog delay sound is achieved using 3 of the famous and coveted Reticon SAD1024 Bucket Brigade chips, which are really rare and fairly expensive nowadays (if you can find them!). This particular version is USA-made, as opposed to the later black box version, which was made in Taiwan.

The Reticon chips are really what make this pedal stand out, and give it that holy grail delay type of tone. Very organic and lush, perhaps even hints of reverb, the Stereo Delay will do awesome slap back, cool undertones on lead runs and some pretty wicked runaway repeat oscillation as well. If you can find one, and have been looking for a true representation of the sounds produced on all your favorite records growing up, this Ross is a sweet, sweet sonic ride, one that has already stood the test of time, and will continue to do so for years to come.
