Dr. Scientist Frazz Dazzler FuzzIn an effects world full of clones and “borrowed” circuits, there’s a want, maybe even a NEED, for fresh pedals, new ideas and incredible music-making machines. A company that absolutely adheres to this mantra in Dr. Scientist, who continually reinvests the proverbial sonic wheel, creating unique design after design, some of which we’ve had the pleasure to review. Today’s pedal, the Frazz Dazzler Fuzz, keeps that streak alive and kicking, bending the very fabric of space and time in a very fuzzy and distorted way, much to the delight of all who hear or play it.

For starters, the Frazz Dazzler boasts a 3-band EQ section, not the most common on a fuzz pedal, but extremely useful in dialing in the sound you’re looking for. Scoop the mids, boost the bass and tame the treble – the sky’s the limit with this excellent addition. A Mix knob also lets you blend your wet and dry signals, perfect for selecting just how much of each you want roaring out of your amplifier (works great for bass players, too!). The Vol controls the overall output, essential in boosting or taming the signal, depending on the rest of your path. A fun Volts allows you to control the amount of voltage the circuit gets, for interesting gated fuzz sounds and massive headroom fuzz, too.

The Gain section is a fun one here – using both ICs and transistors in the circuit, this fuzz encompasses all we know and love about this type of effect, and smashes it into one pedalboard-friendly enclosure. Set the dirt level using the Gain knob, but wait….! There’s a second footswitch here! Engaging this takes your gain UP a notch, giving it more boost and grit than you’ll know what to do with. Playing with the settings of this high-gain mode and the Volt control will yield hours and hours of intense awesomeness, so prepare yourself!

Dr. Scientist LogoYou can even fine-tune this fuzz further via an internal trimpot with which you can set the minimum amount for the Volts knob, and you can also control the Mix with an external expression pedal. Whew, that a lot of stuff packed into this little wonder! Looking for a Big Muff-type, creamy fuzz tone? Done. Want a giant wall of noise that doesn’t muddy up and still sounds great? All set. The Frazz Dazzler once again puts on display the innovation and ingenuity being unleashed on the world by Ryan and Dr. Scientist – thanks to all involved there for the chance to let this beast rip, now head over to their extra-cool website and see what else they have in store for you!
