Boss RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay (JHS Dual Mode Mod)Although we have already once reviewed this pedal in its ORIGINAL form, the RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay we’re looking at today has had a key modification added to it, making it even more impressive and useful than before. Josh and the kids at JHS Pedals came up with the Dual Mode Mod for the RV-3, RV-5 or RV-6 pedals, essentially turning it into a 2-in-1 pedal, allowing you to switch between two chosen modes on-the-fly. Let’s see what they came up with, and how it can benefit your rig…

For the full specs and review on the RV-3, head over HERE to our original review, if you don’t already know about this classic pedal. We’re here to focus on the Mod: as you can see, there’s a secondary footswitch that has been installed, which lets you seamlessly flip-flop between the two modes of your choice. An internal trimpot, which mimics the Mode knob itself, lets you select that crucial second mode, while the main Mode knob up top still controls what the original mode is. An LED has also been installed, so you can clearly see when you’re in Secondary Mode, and when you’re not. Go between two different types of reverbs, two different delay times or trade off between one of each. This mod really opens up the live possibilities of the RV-series of pedals, giving you hands-free operation and basically two pedals in one.

The demo below mainly demonstrates how the Boss RV-3 sounds, with a switch to the second mode near the end, but you can still see how important it can be, and how you’d use it on stage. We’re always fans of modding and making great pedals exquisite, which is exactly what has happened to the RV-3 Digital Reverb/Delay through this modification. Be sure to check out JHS’ other mods on their website, and if you happen to already own one of these three pedals, you should probably just send it in to them today, don’t you think?
