Mu-FX Phasor 2X Optical PhaserAfter already getting our grubby mitts on the Tru-Tron 3X and Boostron 3 effects pedals from Mike Beigel and the newly revamped Mu-FX, we absolutely could not wait to see what today’s pedal had in store for us. Boy, did it deliver and then some! The Phasor 2X is the Modern Vintage Analog™ refinement of the original Musitronics® Phasor II pedal, but housed in Mu-FX’ signature “mini-mu” enclosure, and featuring some new sounds and modern improvements as well. Set your phasers for stun, here we go!

Having never actually played a Phasor II, but having had the privilege to play an original Phasor, we knew the lush, deep, space-infused sounds that were in those classic boxes, and were hoping for more of the same in the Phasor 2X. Well, all fears were whisked away in a matter of about 3 seconds when we first hit that Bypass switch and unleashed the sonic beauty held within this retro-designed effect. The 2X is the Modern Vintage Analog™ refinement of the original Musitronics® Phasor II pedal, providing more functionality, options and user-friendliness across the board. The main addition are the TWO phasing modes to choose from: 4 or 6 Stage. These are selectable via the right side footswitch, and each harness their own sets of controls.

LFO adjusts the overall Speed of the low frequency oscillating wave that controls the effect, while Sweep lets you set the range of the entire phase sweep. The Phase control feeds the effects back into itself, creating a bolder, more powerful phaser presence as it’s turned clockwise. These three simple controls are anything but, giving you more phase-infused tonal opportunities and options than you can ever imagine. Each channel has it’s own selector switch you can use an Expression pedal with, via the Exp Pedal jack up top, which allows you to control either the Rate or Sweep for each mode, taking the possibilities in a live setting ever further into outer space.

Mu-FX LogoIf this all wasn’t enough, you can also run the Phasor 2X in Stereo (which we did for the demo below), which really makes it open up sonically, giving you a true, bold, thick phaser sound, the one you’ve been chasing for all these years. Bright LEDs let you know exactly what’s going on at any given time with the pedal, and a 12v AC power supply gives you optimal headroom and hi-fidelity sound as well. Thanks so much to Mike Beigel and everyone involved with Mu-FX, the effects you guys are putting out are truly inspirational, to say the least. Head over to their site and pick up a couple pedals for yourselves, readers, you’re gonna be in for a real treat!
