DOD Ruberneck Analog DelayIf you haven’t noticed by now, we like delay pedals here…a lot. Needless to say, we were pretty stoked to hear about the release of the Rubberneck Analog Delay from DOD / DigiTech, and were finally able to get our hands on one to review and demo for you. Let’s just say this machine has a cool retro vibe, with echo sounds spanning decades, and more options in an analog delay pedal than we may have ever seen. Buckle up, kiddies, you’re in for a wild ride today…

Like most delays, the Rubberneck starts off with a fairly standard control section: Time, Repeats and Level. Repeats sets the number of echoes, as usual, while Level does exactly what you think. Time, meanwhile, throws us our first curve ball, in that the range for the Rubberneck is a whopping 1.5 SECONDS, waaaaaaaaaay more than any delay from back in the day, and more than most modern versions as well. Right off the bat, we’re wicked intrigued.

If you dig some warble, bending and other wacky modulation in your delays, as we do, then you’ll be right at home fidgeting around with this guy. Controls for Rate and Depth let you add in just the right amount of modulation to the echoes, from slight and subtle to full on crazytown. There’s also the “Rubbernecking” feature, which gives you a stretched rubber band kind of sound, with a Rate control to adjust to taste. Both of these features can be controlled by and external switch as well (we used one of our favorites from Analog Endeavors for the demo below!).

The external switch can also perform Tap Tempo functionality, which you can set via the onboard footswitch, too. The three tempo ration selections (quarter, eighth and dotted eighth notes) allow for even more flexibility, and the Tails switch lets you command if you want any delay echo spillover after the Rubberneck is bypassed or not. There are even knobs to adjust the Tone and Gain of the delay, giving you access to the dark, dirty, overdriven analog sounds of your favorite artists from the 70’s and beyond.

Still haven’t had enough? Fine….there’s an Effects Loop as well, for inserting other effects into the delay’s feedback path! HOLY SH*T! No one trick pony here, people, the Rubberneck Analog Delay from DOD / DigiTech is a madman that will lift you up and take you on a sonic journey to the far reaches of the galaxy and back again, with more options and sounds than you’ll be able to comprehend. Take a listen and look below to see what it is capable of…beware, though, you just might go and order one for yourself once the video ends…
