Dunlop Electronics EP103 Echoplex® DelayWe’ve all had a pedal, effects or vintage sound-making machine that has peaked our curiosity for years, but have never had the ways or means to acquire said piece of gear. One of the most famous of these is undoubtedly the Echoplex EP-3 from Maestro, a warm echo machine full of tasty modulated delays, and one responsible for many of the classic and iconic recorded tones ever put down on tape. These units, however, are temperamental, expensive and rare, to name a few of their downfalls. The folks at Dunlop have come up with a small, easy to use solution to this problem, however – the EP103 Echoplex® Delay.

More and more options are being packed into smaller enclosures these days, and the EP103 is no exception. Besides having the uncanny ability to copy some of the tastiest tones in the world, this small gem has a bunch of modern amenities as well. The Volume knob sets your output level, but also doubles as the pathway to the Age mode (by holding it for 2 seconds), which lets you simulate the sonic qualities of an aging original EP-3. Sustain sets the number of repeats, while Delay sets your delay time (65-750ms; this can be bumped up to around FOUR SECONDS via the Tap Tempo jack and M199 switch).

The EP103 features an all-analog, hi-fi dry signal path, for a crystal clear signal when the pedal is bypassed. The wow-and-flutter of the Age mode really makes this thing sing, and captures those special and hard-to-achieve tones very easily. You can set it to be 100% wet, too, and can even run the Inputs and Outputs in STEREO, for a really versatile, option-filled effect. Pair it up with the Dunlop EP101 Echoplex® Preamp, and you’ve got a real match made in musical heaven.

If you want dark, brooding repeats, but also the option to have bright, clear delay tones, and a mix of everything in between, the EP103 Echoplex® Delay is right up your alley. You can choose true relay of trails bypass modes as well, and it comes with Constant Headroom Technology®, which provides a full 20 volts of headroom, as if you needed more with this pedal. Make sure to peruse the demo video below and get a glimpse of the soundscapes you’ll be able to create, and we’ll see you next time!
