There are pedals and amps that produce tones which just make you take a step back the first time you hear them. A good number of these have been produced by Marshall, and today’s pedal is a take on possubly their most famous pedal: the Blues Breaker. Taking that awesome piece of gear, tweaking it a bit and adding more options, the Mount Pleasant from Vick Audio aims to reproduce those vintage tones, but in a smaller footprint and with more of what you want.
Level and Gain control the output and dirt, respectively, and each has a good sweeping range to set as you wish. As the original Bluesbreakers lacked a ton of gain and output volume, these two have been accentuated to up the sonic ante, resulting in a wonderful low-to-mid gain effect that crushes rock, blues and more. The Tone control has also been adjusted to produce a more balanced response, again boasting a nice sweep of tonal choices.
The lone toggle switch furthers what you can do with this little machine. Being able to select from three different hi-cut modes opens up more possibilities, and lets you truly find that old school Marshall sound you’re craving. With the toggle in the middle, there’s no cut, but the HC1 and HC2 settings make it easy to fine tune your bass and rhythm sounds, taking out two differing levels of high frequency to find that sweet spot.
This pedal is also extremely responsive, no matter what type of pickups you throw at it, producing both warm and bright tones, depending on your current setup. If you want that famous Marshall sound in a pedal, but don’t want to pay an exuberant amount of money for a pedal that may give you some problems, the Mount Pleasant may just be exactly what you’re been searching for.
