Malekko Heavy Industry Downer Wavefolder Saturation Octave FilterAre you looking to get nuts with your sound? Tired of having 8 drive pedals that all sound fairly similar, and want to spice it up? Looking for a compact and easy way to create walls of noise and freak out your audience? Then the Downer from Malekko Heavy Industry is just what the doctor ordered. Part wavefolder, part saturator, part octave and part filter, these words vaguely describe what this grey monster is able to unleash.

The Down knob starts off the controls, and adds in or takes out a range dropping down one full octave. The Blend control right beneath it lets you choose how much octave you want, from 100% Dry signal up to 100% Octave! On the left side of the pedal are two filter controls, High-Pass and Low-Pass, which further allow you to perfectly sculpt and set the overall tones flowing from this box.

Up in the right corner, you get to choose from the Wavefolder or Saturation settings, two distortions each with their own output level range. There’s a Preamp knob as well, which further drives these two modes, pushing their boundaries and testing the limits of the space/time continuum. For even more control, there’s an Expression/CV input jack, which lets you have hands-free control over any or all of the parameters on board, really opening up the sonic choice you are capable of making and exploring.

Malekko Heavy Industries LogoThis is not a pedal for everyone – let’s make no mistake about it. However, musical adventurers, knob twisters and noise procurers will relish and bask in all the auditory glory pouring out of the Downer. As always, the team at Malekko Heavy Industry has managed to reinvent themselves, and quite possibly the wheel, by turning a simple octave effect idea on its head, smashing it into pieces and then building something totally new and creative. Cheers and thanks to them, and be sure to check out their wonderfully freaky lineup of gear (after you watch the demo below, of course).
