PLBR Effects Maritimus Distortion FuzzThe Narwhal Distortion Fuzz from PLBR Effects is one of the funnest fuzzes we’ve seen come through as of late, so we were pretty stoked to try out its bug brother, the Maritimus Distortion Fuzz as well. Taking similar controls from the Narwhal and expanding upon them, the Maritimus allows you to further shape your tone and create magnificent walls of distorted fuzz. There’s a lot to get to in this pedal, so let’s jump right in, shall we?

Across the top of the Maritimus are four fairly expected control knobs. Pre-Gain sets the amount of signal coming into the fuzz circuit, Tone controls the EQ sweep, Highs sets the curvature of the high mids and treble from the EQ and Sustain adjusts the amount of both fuzz and sustain, with both increasing as you turn it clockwise. These parameters set the tone for what this pedal can do, and are excellent starting points to finding your sweet spot when using this effect.

Two BIG knobs underneath those four add in more options to your distortion sound. Clipping gives you SIX different clipping options to choose from (Silicone diodes, Germanium diodes, Schottky diode/LED pair, LED diodes, MOSFET and no diodes), compressing the Fuzz in different ways. Combining these with the next knob, Shape, gives you more control of the overall tone, with three EQ shape selections (classic BMP EQ, heavily-scoooped mids or punchy mids) that offer a wide variety in tonal production. A small Noise toggle lets you cut the control over the excessive high tones, creating otherworldly and obscure noise. A Volume control sets your overall output to round out the controls…..

PLBR Effects Logo….WAIT! THERE’S MORE! An Internal Dip Switch can also be used to set the first fuzz clipping stage for the base sound of the pedal, with three choices: LED Diodes (more open and distortion-like), Silicone (stock; compressed fuzz) or No Diodes, which boosts your volume, and works great for bass as well). Finally, a Feedback footswitch sends your signal into octave squeal sounds that feature elements of octave, too, for yet ANOTHER auditory option for you to add into the mix. All in all, the Maritimus is a distortion and fuzz pedal that carries a boatload of tones and styles, enough to fit any style and band you’ll ever be a part of. Cheers once again to the PLBR Effects crew for a job well done – as soon as they’ve got more gear to release, you’ll see it on our site, so stay tuned!!
