The effects company Montreal Assembly is an elusive entity in today’s modern world, with little to no online presence, just a basic website and little social media activity. Somehow, they’ve managed to make an incredible name for themselves, and we get to check out one of their now-discontinued creations today. The Positive Overdrive Distortion is just that: a driving force of gritty tone and crunchy distortion that leaves a plus on every note and chord you play, and will do the same to the eardrums of the folks in the crows as well.
As you can see, the Positive doesn’t really require any kind of manual, due to its very simple controls and layout. The Volume sets the output, while Gain adjusts the amount of distortion you’d like present in your signal path. The lone, un-labeled toggle switch is for your Tone, with one position being a flat eq, and the other giving you that classic scooped mids kind of sound. The Gain features a nice range, going from slightly overdriven to heavy and mean, while the Tone switch gives you a variety of sounds within the range of the gain as well.
That’s about it! We know it’s inspired by the ‘vintage’ Hotcake circuit, but there’s not much more info on this cream-colored cutie, other than it sure sounds good. In this day and age, with everyone being glued to their electronics and online presence being fairly important to all businesses, it’s impressive that the Montreal Assembly crew has been able to get such a great following without doing much in the way of that stuff, so hats off.
