Hungry Robot Pedals The Moby Dick Delay V2We here at Pedal of the Day have been fortunate to be able to review and demo many pedals from our friend Eric at Hungry Robot Pedals, which makes us even more excited about today’s featured effect. Having checked out the original Moby Dick Delay, we were excited to see what changes and improvements awaited us in V2 – well, let’s just say that our expectations were exceeded. Aside from the obvious smaller enclosure, the innards have been reworked and tweaked to squeeze every possible ounce of tape-emulating echo out, making for a fun, energetic and character-filled delay.

Like the first version of the Moby Dick, V2 features Mix, Repeats, Modulation and Time controls. Mix blends your signals, Repeats sets the number of echoes and Time sets how long the gorgeous delay is, with a max time of just about 1000ms (you can also set the Time via the tap tempo footswitch as needed). Modulation, the backbone of this tape-delay, adds in some tasty warble and vintage tone, the depth of which has been increased dramatically for this new edition.

Gone is the Tap Division parameter control here, and it has been replaced by a Lo-Fi control, which lets you dial in an added level of tape saturation to the delay line. By applying some pre-gain amplification to the front end of the PT2399 delay chip, you get a bit of an overdriven tone, complete with the warmth and organic tone we all know and love from our analog delays. This knob, especially when mixed in with the Modulation, produces a wide array of sounds, including pitch bending, dramatic chorusing and amazing broken tape-deck qualities.

Hungry Robot Pedals LogoDoes any of this sound intriguing? You’re damn right it is! For a sampling taster of what this gray gem is capable of, please check out the demo video below and subscribe to our YouTube channel. Small but extremely powerful, this shimmery, old school, retro tape delay gives you many tonal options to choose from, bringing analog delay and modulation to the forefront of your pedalboard, propelling your tone into outer space and beyond. Cheers once again to Eric and the tight crew at Hungry Robot Pedals – they keep putting out incredible machine after incredible machine, so stay tuned for more gear from them right here, and don’t forget to check out their website for more awesome effects!
