Walrus Audio Deep Six Compressor V3

Today we’ve got the third and final installment in our “Walrus Week” that featured new effects pedals from our friends at Walrus Audio, and we’re headed back to revisit one of the pedals that put them on the map in the first place. The Deep Six Compressor has been a staple in the compression market since its release in 2012, and this particular version, Number Three, continues to build on that solid foundation. Adding in a couple of new features and art, the Deep Six V3 will keep your tone in tact, while adding in a bit of funk and strut for good measure.

A studio-grade compressor in stompbox form, the Deep Six V3 mixes the simplicity of the famous Ross and DynaComp compressor with the quality and inspiration of the Universal Audio 1176. Level starts out the controls, and can be used to drive and amplifier and other pedals in your chain when turned up significantly. Tone is a bass cut that helps to shape the overall low end, while Sustain works well in both rhythm and lead scenarios. At lower levels, it acts as a tone shaper of sorts, keeping your sound nice and even, but can also give you classic Santana or Clapton lead tones when pushed up past 2:00.

The Attack knob lets you dial in how fast the compressor reacts to the notes you play; lower settings reveal smoother sounds, while higher settings give off a punchier type of tone. A new feature for the Deep Six V3 is the Blend knob, which mixes your dry signal with the compression effect. This is especially useful when you’re running humbucker pickups, as you can perfectly eliminate the majority of the hiss or distortion that humbuckers have been know to cause when interacting with compressors of any kind.

The new Deep Six Compressor also boasts top-mounted jacks, as well as soft bypass switching, and undated components for overall improved sound. The internal voltage is doubled to 18V, giving you maximum headroom while maintaining a low current draw as well. Needing a pedal to give you a nice, even sound without a ton of noisy interference, all while adding some gorgeous sustain and punch to your tone? Then this newest iteration of the Deep Six is the pedal you’ve been searching for! We’ve had a blast over the last few days during “Walrus Week” here at POTD – get a taste of what the DSV3 can do in our demo below, check out our reviews for the new Monument Tap Tremolo V2 and Lillian Phaser before you leave, and don’t forget to head over to the Walrus Audio website for ordering info for these three excellent sonic marvels. Hope you all had as much fun as we did, see you next time!
