Marshall Guv'nor Overdrive Distortion

Mmmmmmmmmmm….Plexi. Those classic Marshall amplifier tones that have been recorded for over 50 years just put a smile on all of our faces, don’t they? However….that exact sound is not the easiest to dial in or obtain, with out-of-production gear, soaring prices for the vintage amps and problematic parts and repair make up a few of the reasons why this tone is so cherished, and so hard to come by. Enter the Guv’nor Overdrive pedal. Made in the late 80s, this unique beast brings you the sound your ears so crave at a minute fraction of the cost of a full vintage rig, and will make any amp come ALIVE!

Designed to replicate the sounds of the Plexi and JCM800 amps, the Guv’nor gives you a broad range of sounds to wield and shape. The five-knob parameter control section gives you a full 3-band EQ, with knobs for Bass, Middle and Treble, as well as a Level output control. Use the Gain knob to conjure up two different sounds, relating to those two specific amps, or experiment and find a sound that fits your style and playing.

There’s even a Loop jack, which allows you to add other pedals into the circuit, via a “Y” or “Insert” TRS splitter cable, with the Guv’nor acting as the master on/off for the entire chain. The overdrive sound also can become slightly compressed, which is always welcome here at the office, adding to the complexity and usefulness of this pedal. Out of production since 1991, these are getting harder and harder to find, but if you want that Marshall stack sound, we bet you can probably track one down…
