Today’s pedal is an awesomely odd one to approach, as it is really 10 pedals in one. The Console from ELTA Music uses a series of interchangeable sound cartridges, each with its own set of three modes, to produce a wide array of tones and auditory revelations that will alter your approach to creating music. We are going to review and demo all 10 of these cartridges eventually, and the next one is our series is the Vibe Rotary Phase Modulation.
The Console itself consists of a couple different parts: first and foremost, there’s a big joystick that operates both an “X” and “Y” axis. What these control depends upon which cartridge you’re using, and also which program you choose via the Program Select toggle up top. The “Z” knob is a third parameter setting, with each cartridge having its own little cheat sheet to explain what sounds are available in each mode. The Blend knob stays constant throughout, acting as a fusion of clean and dirty signal enhancement.
On the back side, the are Input and Output jacks for connecting your instrument and amp, as well as a small Volume knob to control the output. A Reset button shows up here as well – once you change cartridges, just hit this and the new one will load right up. What’s nice about the Console, as with other pedals that feature this luxury, is the freedom you get with the joystick. Not bogged down by just 1, 2 or even 3 selections, this control lets you really explore each of the programs, fine-tuning each aspect for a truly unique experience.
With so many options and so much to explore, we’re going to have some fun with this guy, as will you.
