SoloDallas TSR Schaffer Replica Compander Boost

Who doesn’t love some AC/DC? Really? Well, you’re wrong, and you need to go download their whole catalog immediately. Speaking of folks who really dig that band, our featured pedal today is basically the accumulation of facts, tones and info regarding Mr. Angus Young (of said band) and his instantly-recognizable tone, compiled over a lifetime and finally brought to life in the form of the TSR Schaffer Replica Compander Boost from our friends at SoloDallas.

The TSR Schaffer Replica takes SoloDallas’ “Gold Tag” Tower, a replica of the Schaffer Vega Diversity System, and crams it into a pedal-sized enclosure. The SVDS was an all-analog, tone enhancing wireless system used in the 1970’s and 80’s by such players as Jerry Garcia, Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, Peter Frampton and, most famously, Angus Young. Painstakingly recreating this circuitry has taken a long time, but the result is completely fabulous and worth the wait.

With only two control knobs, the TSR might look simple and plain at first…then you plug it in. Your amp comes alive instantly, your tone is forever changed and your windows in your house just might all be blown to bits. The Input knob controls SoloDallas‘ signature gain circuit that bumps the crucial low-mid frequencies, responsible for giving live instruments punch and making them stand out in the mix. The Output knob controls a powerful analog preamp, one that puts out a whooping 30dB of clean boost to work with. The whole pedal adds sustain, shapes your tone, drives amps into sweet spots and makes your sound stand out in any mix you can imagine. There’s a Compander feature inside as well, which is a discreet analog compressor that levels the output of each individual frequency, then feeds them into a studio grade expander, which then restores amplitude and removes unnatural compression artifacts. Can your pedals do that?

Featuring 100% Analog Circuitry, a high-quality PCB with gold plated contacts, a heavy duty footswitch and Neutrik jacks, there have been ZERO shortcuts taken with this powerhouse of a pedal. Not just for AC/DC fans, either, the TSR Schaffer Replica adds a sparkle and boost to any rig, regardless of musical style, influence or skill level. Fil and the SoloDallas crew have just been crushing it since they came on the scene a few years back, and their constant innovation and improvement on their gear let you know they’re serious about putting out quality products, now and moving forward. Check out their website for all the gear, check out our review of the Storm Boost Limiter if you have a chance, but be sure to watch the demo video below to see and hear the TSR in action.
