Behringer Vintage Time Machine Delay Echo Chorus Vibrato

What’s better than an absolutely GIANT effects box laying at your feet? Well, maybe some other things, but it’s still pretty cool. From the short but distinguished list of these beasts, we bring you a somewhat underdog in a world of Memory Men and Guitar Synthesizers: the VM1 Vintage Time Machine Delay Echo Chorus Vibrato from Behringer. An analog delay with a few tricks up its sleeve, this powerhouse is big, bad, and bold, in all the right kinds of ways.

With the Delay Time clocking in at just over a half second (about 550ms), the VM1 is a true analog masterpiece, as many vintage delays of this type hovered around the same amount of time. Concocting classic ’70s analog echoes with ease, this beast gives you gorgeous tape delay emulation for that sparkling, slightly dirty sound. The key ingredient to this tasty sonic stew is the Chorus/Vibrato channel, which slyly mixes in either one of these effects with your delay. Choose the mode via a small switch up top, then blend in as much or as little as you want, for warbles and pulses galore. Use the Direct and Effect Outs to give off a warm, engulfing Stereo sound as well, an option that is (or should be) always welcome.

Sounding right on par with the vintage tape delays of years gone by, the VM1 Time Machine gives you all the sounds of those workhorses, but without all the mess of actual tape loops, broken parts and incessant upkeep. This guy is even hard-wired for true bypass, keeping your tone in tact when you’re not flying off into outer space on a delay ride to the stars. Best of all, these beauties can be found for relatively cheap, so even if it turns out it’s not your jam, the investment is minimal (let’s face it, you’re gonna have fun with this, though, no matter what). We’re made a valiant effort to capture some of the noises the Behringer VM1 produces in our demo below – give it a little look and listen, won’t you?
