Free The Tone DVL-1H Direct Volume Pedal

If you don’t know the power and prowess of having a Volume pedal in your rig by now, you should really look into it. Besides being able to cut off your signal instantly, you can do signal swells, ambient delay and reverb fades and, in most cases, silently tune without skipping a beat or unplugging anything. Now, there are many different types, sizes and build structures to volume pedals throughout the world – we’re going to look at one of the newest incarnations today. The DVL-1 Series volume pedals from Free The Tone uses the Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system, having been newly developed by identifying problems in conventional volume pedals in order to embody this ideal model.

“What is the Full-Rotation Belt-Drive System?” you might ask… Well, it adopts a gear and belt mechanism to drive the variable resistor linearly, and link pedal operation directly to volume change. The volume is controlled smoothly and musically, with smooth rotation and an optimized volume curve. The belt used in this mechanism is reinforced with metal wires to provide excellent durability, and to prevent elongation or breakage from heavy use or aging. Some volume pedals use strings that tend to snap or fray at the most inopportune times – not the case with the DVL Series.

“Which model are you using today?” Another great question from the audience! The DVL-1H is what we’ve got for you, and it is the High Impedance model. Connecting it after a high impedance device often found in guitars & basses with passive type pickups, fuzz pedals, or vintage effects units, etc. will result in the perfect pairing with your rig. The other model, the DVL-1L, is the Low Impedance model, and is used after a low impedance device, as often found in guitars & basses with active type pickups, wireless receivers or effects units.

General passive type volume pedals have a problem in which pressing the pedal to its full toe-down position does not turn the variable resistor all the way to the clockwise end because there is an unusable rotation range and therefor the signal level may decrease when connecting that volume pedal even after matching impedances of your devices. The Full-Rotation Belt-Drive system in the DVL-1 series has been carefully designed so that the variable resistor fully rotates from its minimum to maximum positions so the above problem does not occur.

The DVL-1 Series Direct Volume uses carefully selected high-quality parts in the signal path to provide musical sound with minimal tonal impact, and the robust enclosure will stand long-term use and prevent problems such as deformation or breaking. Basically, this thing is a tank that feels like you’re stepping onto a feather. Not your ordinary volume pedal, the DVL-1H is built to last, and sounds absolutely pristine.
